Swedish Lace, Silk Shawl

from 350.00

Each, one of a kind, these silk shawls were woven on a counterbalance, 4 shaft floor loom. The warp is 100% 16/2 cultivated silk, the weft is 100% wild silk contributing to an antique look, beautiful drape and plus, the warmth of silk. All are hemstitched and hand finished. They have been dyed with indigofera tinctoria, washed and pressed, ready to wear.

There are two shawls each with different blocks of Swedish lace. A large shawl has long rectangular blocks of lace bordered with plain weave and measures 38.5" long plus a 1/2" fringe by 30" wide. This piece has been dyed a deep indigo. The other - a medium shawl with long rectangular lace blocks paired with a square block of lace, all bordered by plain weave measuring 29.5" long by 30" long plus a 1/2" fringe. Two colour effects play on this piece. A smattering of madder root has been over dyed with an uneven, ombre effected indigo.

There is one indigo dyed shawlette available. This piece is composed in square lace blocks and again, bordered by plain weave. The shawlette measures 22" long by 30" wide with a half inch fringe. The dye work resulted in an ombre effect.

Please know that although these shawls have been washed after the dyeing process, they may turn your skin blue for a short time. This is the nature of indigo dye work and is the mark of true indigo!
